The surveyed area lies within the Limerick Basin / Limerick Volcanic Complex. The region includes carbonate rocks (Waulsortian limestones), faults, breccias, plus dolomitization. These are favourable for “Irish-type” zinc-lead deposits.
Black matrix breccias and polymictic breccias are recurring features. Mineralisation tends to occur in these brecciated zones, often in basal parts of Waulsortian Reef carbonate layers.
